OCAA MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP COMES TO OTTAWA
Algonquin College plays host to the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Soccer Championship beginning Saturday at the Algonquin Sports Field in Ottawa.
OTTAWA - Algonquin College plays host to the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Soccer Championship beginning Saturday at the Algonquin Sports Field in Ottawa.
All three of last year's medalists have returned to the OCAA final four, including the host Algonquin Wolves, who were both the provincial and national silver medalists in 2024. The Wolves will host the rival Humber Hawks who thwarted Algonquin's championship hopes with double gold medals last year.
The reigning OCAA bronze medalist Seneca Sting and Conestoga Condors round out the competition. All four teams finished in the Top 2 of their respective divisions during the regular season. A pair of semifinals will take place on Saturday, with OCAA bronze and gold medal matches taking place on Sunday.
As much as an OCAA gold medal is the ultimate goal, the most important matches will take place on Saturday. With OCAA sending two representatives to next month's nationals, the semifinal winners will not only advance to the OCAA gold medal match, but will make the three-hour trek east to Saint-Lambert, Que., for the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer National Championship.
All games will be streamed on OCAA LIVE.
Conestoga Condors, Kitchener (8-2-0, 2nd West) vs Algonquin Wolves (9-1-0, 1st East)
Saturday, Oct. 25 - 12 p.m.
The Algonquin Wolves take a 7-0 home record into the championship as they set their sights on winning their first OCAA gold medal since 2014.
Algonquin's path to provincials included a 4-1 win over the Fanshawe Falcons and 1-0 victory over the Sheridan Bruins. East Division First-Team All-Star Cristian Aviles-Moli (Ottawa) scored the lone goal of the latter match.
The Wolves feature OCAA Player of the Year Alessandro Vivolo (Ottawa). The OCAA Scoring Champion scored 16 goals in nine regular season matches.
The Conestoga Condors also benefited by two home playoff shutouts, defeating the Lakehead Orillia Thunderwolves 9-0 and division-rival Mohawk Mountaineers 4-0.
The Condors feature two All-Canadians in second-year midfielder Evan Antolcic (Kitchener) and fourth-year goalkeeper Pedja Jovicic (Kitchener). Conestoga has allowed just four goals against in a dozen matches.
Conestoga won the OCAA championship in 2023.
Seneca Sting, Toronto (8-0-2, 2nd East) vs Humber Hawks, Toronto (10-0-0, 1st West)
Saturday, Oct. 25 - 3 p.m.
Two teams that have yet to taste defeat have a date with destiny for more reasons than wins and losses. Michael Aquino, who coached the Humber Hawks for 11 seasons capturing eight OCAA titles and seven CCAA national championships, now leads the Seneca Sting.
Humber has now won 12 straight matches in 2025, defeating the St. Lawrence Surge 14-0 and division-rival Niagara Knights 5-0 in a pair of playoff matches. West Division First-Team All-Star Franz Mella (Toronto) has scored four post-season goals. Similar to Conestoga, Humber has allowed just four goals against in a dozen matches.
The Sting have almost been as stingy on defence, allowing seven goals against in 10 regular season matches. Seneca's path to Ottawa include two playoff wins, 1-0 over the Redeemer Royals and 4-0 over the St. Clair Saints. East Division First-Team All-Star goaltender Ile Naumoski (Whitby) has been a strong presence for Seneca between the pipes.
These teams squared off in the semi-finals last year, with Humber pulling out a 2-1 overtime victory.
Both programs have reached the podium at each of the last five provincials. Humber has won four gold and one silver medal during this span, compared to Seneca's one silver and four bronze.
