ALGONQUIN & SENECA WILD WEST BOUND
The Algonquin College Thunder and the Seneca College Sting Men’s Volleyball teams will represent the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) at the 2009 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball Nationals hosted by Keyano College in Fort McMurray, Alberta from March 12-14.

Men’s Volleyball teams will represent the Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) at the 2009 Canadian Colleges Athletic
Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball Nationals hosted by
Keyano College in Fort McMurray, Alberta from March 12-14.
The four day event kicks off on Wednesday, March 11 with the CCAA
All-Canadian Awards Banquet. OCAA Player of the Year, Steve
Pawelczyk of Mohawk College, has been nominated for the National
Player of the Year award and will also be honoured as a CCAA
All-Canadian. Ryan Talsma of Redeemer University-College will also
be honoured as a CCAA All-Canadians. Algonquin’s Max Larrivee
has also been nominated for the CCAA Coach of the Year award which
will also be announced at the Champions banquet.
The Thunder will kick off the tournament’s play on Thursday,
March 12 at 2:00 pm (EST), with Seneca taking the court the
following game starting at 4:00 pm (EST). The Championship
continues through Saturday, March 14.
The Algonquin Thunder head into the championship as the third seed
after winning the Provincial Championship for the second time in
three years with a 3-0 victory over the Seneca Sting in the
Championship final at Durham College. Their first round match-up
will see the OCAA Champs face the sixth seeded University of the
Fraser Valley Cascades from British Columbia.
The Seneca Sting head into the tournament as the seventh seed after
earning a wildcard bid and will look to pull off the upset when
they face the second seeded Grant MacEwan Griffins in their opening
round match-up.
