DURHAM 3, TRENT 0
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team earned their second straight 3-0 sweep to start the 2012-13 season as they defeated the Trent Excalibur in Peterborough on Wednesday night.
Set scores in the match were 25-23, 25-17 and 25-21.
The Lords offence was running on all cylinders as 37 of 40 points came off of kills.
OCAA men's volleyball athlete of the week Riley McAllister (Oshawa) looked to Brad Van Hartingsveldt (Newcastle) and Craig Lush (Port Perry) for offence as the two big-men combined for 26 kills. Van Hartingsveldt was the game's leading scorer with 15 points (13 kills, 2 blocks) while Lush finished with 13 kills.
Durham's defence also did a great job as they shut down the Excalibur in key moments of the game, with liberos Tom Alayon (Whitby) and Dan Popovich (Pickering) patrolling the backcourt.
Trent's leading scorer was Christian Zimmer who had 11 points in the losing effort.
Durham is 2-0 to start the season and is one of four teams with an unbeaten record in the OCAA east region. Trent falls to 0-3 on the year.
