ST. CLAIR 3, REDEEMER 1
It was a great weekend at home for the St. Clair men's volleyball team. The Saints came away with a split going 1-1 taking on two of the top teams in the OCAA. With the win St. Clair has already surpassed their win total from last year as the Saints are now 2-2 on the season.
On Saturday, St. Clair hosted the Redeemer University Royals at the St. Clair Gym. Redeemer is ranked fourth in Ontario. The Saints started out slow dropping the first game 25-21. However St. Clair stormed back to win the next three games (25-16, 25-21, 25-20) to win the match 3-1. It was a solid team effort for St. Clair with several players having great games. Connor West (Lethbridge) led the way for the Saints with 17 kills, two aces, two stuff blocks and 12 digs. Setter Josh Lynch had a solid match distributing the ball well and chipping in with two kills, one ace and six blocks.
On Friday, St. Clair took on the top-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers at the St. Clair gym. Mohawk is ranked thrid in Ontario and 11th in Canada. The Saints got off to a great start winning the first game 25-21. Unfortunately the loss seemed to wake up Mohawk who bounced back to win the next three games (25-19, 25-17, 25-21) to take the match. Travis Wigle (Kingsville) was the top Saint offensively with 15 kills, one ace and two blocks.
The men are next in action on Saturday and Sunday when they travel to North Bay to take on Nipissing University and Canadore College.
