SHERIDAN 3, MOHAWK 2
The Sheridan Bruins came to Hamilton on Saturday (Nov. 17) and left with a pair of OCAA volleyball wins over the host Mohawk Mountaineers.
The Sheridan men knocked off the 10th ranked team in the country in five sets. Mohawk fell behind by two sets, rallied to pull even, but then lost the deciding game. The scores were 26-24, 25-21, 15-25, 23-25, 15-11 for Sheridan. They also knocked the Mountaineers from the ranks of the undefeated. Both teams are now 4-1.
Cody Williams led the Bruins with 18 kills, one service ace and one stuff block. Once again, Mo Sulaiman led the Mountaineers with 20 kills, and one block, while Trevor McLaughlin had 19 kills and one block and Marcin Jedzrejewski had 12 kills and one block.
Meanwhile, Sheridan won the women's match in four sets, 25-23, 25-22,17-25, 25-9. Sommer Maltby paced the Bruins with nine kills and four aces, while Kaitlin Gagnon had four kills, one ace and 17 digs. For the Mountaineers, Melissa DeHaan came up with nine kills, five aces and two blocks. Chantal Baker had 11 digs to go with one kill, one ace and two blocks and Julie Gagnon recorded 10 digs as well as four kills and one block.
Mohawk saw its record slip to 3-2, while Sheridan improved to 2-3.
