DURHAM 3, GEORGIAN 1
OSHAWA, Ont. – The nationally ranked Durham College men's volleyball team remained undefeated with a 3-1 victory over the Georgian Grizzlies Wednesday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
Set scores in the match were 25-21, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-14.
After dropping the third set, Durham picked things up in the fourth led by great serves from Alex Van Staalduinen (Peterborough, Ont.). The Lords led by as many as ten points in the set and won by a final score of 25-14.
Riley McAllister (Oshawa, Ont.) did a great job of distributing the ball throughout the Lords offence as four players scored nine points or more.
Craig Lush of Port Perry led the team with 12 offensive points including seven kills, four blocks and one ace. Brad VanHartingsveldt (Newcastle, Ont.) and Steve Clarey (Baltimore, Ont.) had 11 points apiece while Jeremy Hoekstra (Cobourg, Ont.) had nine points in the win.
Dan Popovich (Pickering, Ont.) had a good defensive game passing the ball to McAllister and recording seven digs.
Lyndon Sonego had 14 kills for Georgian in the losing effort.
The Lords are 8-0 in conference action and in first place in the OCAA East region. Durham will head to North York on Friday for a showdown against the second place Seneca Sting (8-1). Seneca has only dropped six sets in nine matches this year. Game time is 8 p.m.
