LOYALIST 3, GEORGIAN 1
The Georgian Grizzlies men's volleyball team opened the second half of their OCAA season with a 3-1 loss to the Loyalist Lancers Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
The Grizzlies came out firing in the first set overwhelming the Lancers with some big points by Georgian freshman Jason Grimm taking the set 25-17.
Looking comfortable in the second set the Grizzlies got caught on some big plays from Loyalist's Jared Moelker which changed the momentum of the game. Both teams battled forcing a tiebreak which the Lancers were able to take 29-27 and the Grizzlies never recovered.
While Georgian battled hard they just could not get it to work dropping the final two sets 25-16 and 25-20.
Despite the loss, Georgian's Lyndon Sonego had another fantastic game putting up 20 points including 19 kills and added another nine kills. Jason Grimm had 13 points and Michael Vandinther was solid again with 15 kills.
Moelker and Josh Lappala led the way for the Lancers with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
The loss drops the Grizzlies to 6-5 on the season and sit in fifth place in the East Division standings.
There will be no time to dwell on the loss as the Grizzlies will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host the Boreal Vipers. The women's game starts at 12 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 2 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
