DURHAM 3, LA CITE 0
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team improved to 14-3 in OCAA conference play as they picked up a 3-0 victory over the La Cite Coyotes on Saturday night.
The win also marked Durham's 20th overall this season. This is the fifth straight year (third under head coach Andrew Hinchey) that Durham has reached at least 20 wins.
After an uninspired effort against Algonquin on Friday, the Lords came out firing on all cylinders against the visiting Coyotes as they earned their tenth 3-0 sweep of the season.
Some big time plays at the net enabled the Lords to start off quickly which led to a 25-17 victory in the opening set.
In the second set, setter Riley McAllister of Oakville demonstrated a soft touch around the net which caught the Coyotes off-guard as he led Durham to a 25-18 victory. McAllister would finish the match with five kills, an ace, three blocks and three digs.
Being down two sets to none seemed to take the wind out La Cite's sail as the Lords powered through the third set and won by a score of 25-16.
Bradley VanHartingsveldt (Newcastle, Ont.) had a team-high ten kills in the win while Craig Lush (Port Perry, Ont.) had eight points of total offence.
Keith Marier (Ottawa, Ont.) of La Cite had a game-high 12 kills.
Durham is 14-3 on the year and in a four-way tie for first place in the OCAA East region. The Lords will head out on the road next weekend for matches against Cambrian (Friday) and Boreal (Saturday).
