DURHAM 3, TRENT 0
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team won their regular season finale on Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep over the Trent Excalibur to clinch a spot in the OCAA Championship.
Finishing in second place, the Lords advance to the OCAA championship as an automatic qualifier. The provincial event is hosted by Sheridan College from February 21-23. This will mark the Lords fourth straight trip to the provincial championship.
Playing in his final home game of his five year career, Lords captain Steve Clarey finished the night with 11 points to give him 582 in his lustrous career. Clarey finishes his career as Durham's all-time leader in games played, kills and aces.
The Lords dominated the first set against Trent on Wednesday, winning by a score of 25-19. Durham went on to win the second set by the same score. The Lords were dominant on the defensive side, especially Riley McAllister (Oshawa, Ont.) who had three stuff blocks to go along with six digs.
The Excalibur put a scare into Durham as the Lords trailed for the majority of the third set. But once again, the veteran leadership helped Durham overcome the adversity as they went on to steal the set by a score of 25-23.
Graduating seniors for Durham included Clarey, Kyle Kerstens (Oshawa, Ont.), Michael Marchut (Oshawa, Ont.), Luke Kilbourn (Ingersoll, Ont.), Aaron Sheerahamed (Markham, Ont.), Brad VanHartingsveldt (Newcastle, Ont.), Craig Lush (Port Perry, Ont.) and Jeremy Hoekstra (Cobourg, Ont.).
Fourteen of Durham's wins this season have come by the way of 3-0 sweeps.
Durham's first round opponent will be determined following the OCAA qualifying weekend.
