OAKVILLE, Ont. - Nine days after meeting in the OCAA West regular season finale, the Redeemer Royals and Sheridan Bruins squared off in a bronze medal quarter-final, and much like that previous meeting, the Royals emerged with a 3-1 (24-26, 27-25, 25-22, 25-18) victory.
While close, Redeemer held the advantage in all offensive categories - 56-54 in kills, 3-1 in aces, 11-9 in blocks and 70-64 total offence - but the Bruins had a 105-69 advantage in digs.
David Klomps led Redeemer with 17 points (15 kills, two blocks), while Aaron VanderLught (12 kills, four blocks), Eric Heidbuurt (nine kills, two aces) and Cameron Grooenendijk (seven kills, one ace, three blocks) were also in double figures.
Klomps - with 11 digs - and Heidbuurt (12) posted double-doubles, while Calvin Fast (11) and Jake Klassen (13) also chipped in.
Jeremy Fantin (12 kills, five blocks), Matt Bandy (14 kills, along with 11 digs) and Josh Butler (14 kills) led the way offensively for Sheridan, while Frank Pento (32), Cody Williams (32) and Jessy Satti (11) post double-digit dig totals.
Redeemer will now await the loser of the Nipissing/Humber championship semi final in the first bronze semi final on Saturday morning.
