REDEEMER 3, HUMBER 1
OAKVILLE, Ont. - As crestfallen as they may have been following a loss in the quarter-finals to Hamilton derby counter-part Mohawk, the Redeemer Royals still have the opportunity to salvage some hardware, defeating the Humber Hawks 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21) to advance to the bronze medal game.
The Redeemer attack produced 51 kills, eight aces and eight blocks for 67 points of total offence, while Humber countered with 48 kills, four aces, 11 blocks and 63 points.
Both squads dug up 61 balls at the defensive end of the floor.
David Klomps posted a double-double for the Royals with a season-high 25 points (23 kills, two aces) to go with 11 digs, while Aaron VanderLught (eight kills, one ace, one block) and Cameron Grooenendijk (six kills, four blocks) also hit double figures.
Four other Redeemer players posted double-digit dig totals, led by Jesse Dykxhoorn with 17, followed by Eric Heidbuurt (12), Jake Klassen (10) and Calvin Fast (10).
Andre Brown led Humber with 17 points (nine kills, eight blocks), with Trevor Wongs (12 kills) and Mack Robertson (eight kills, one ace, two blocks) also chipping in on the attack.
Aleks Inveiss had a team-high 14 digs for the Hawks.
Redeemer will await the winner of the other bronze semi final between Niagara and Algonquin.
