DURHAM 3, FLEMING 0
OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's volleyball team
completed a 3-0 sweep of Fleming to earn their third consecutive
win. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22.
The Lords and Knights competed for every point in the three set
match. Despite the sweep, each game was consistently close and saw
the best effort of both teams. Through the three sets both teams
totalled over 50 attempted attacks and 15 digs.
Durham was led by Alex Van Staalduinen
(Peterborough, Ont.) and Jeremy Hoekstra (Cobourg,
Ont.). Van Stallduinen led the team converting over half of his
attacks with 12 kills and one block while also collecting four digs
while Hoekstra led the team in aces (two) and blocks (four).
Setter Riley McAllister (Oshawa, Ont.) worked
hard throughout the three sets to deliver perfect sets to his
teammates. McAllister registered 25 assists through the three sets
with his favourite targets being Van Staalduinen, Brad
VanHartingsveldt (Newcastle, Ont.), and Luke
Kilbourn (Ingersoll, Ont.).
The third and final set saw both teams exchange points with the
lead never rising above more than four points. However, the
standout play in the third set that appeared to seal the Knights
fate was an emphatic block by middle blocker Petrus
Kuypers (Haydon, Ont.). After the block the Lords were
able to hold the lead until a Hoekstra block on game point sealed
the victory.
The Lords will next welcome Seneca to the CRWC on Thursday, Nov.
21 as they look to continue their winning ways and ascend the OCAA
standings.
