BARRIE, Ont. - Durham College women's basketball captain Erin Emery (North Bay, Ont.) scored her 800th career point on Wednesday night in a 56-53 Lords victory over the Georgian Grizzlies.
BARRIE, Ont. – Durham College women's basketball captain Erin Emery (North Bay, Ont.) scored her 800th career point on Wednesday night in a 56-53 Lords victory over the Georgian Grizzlies.
Emery had 27 points in the win, bringing her career total to 823. Emery moved into second place on the Durham College all-time scoring list passing Julie Goedhuis (816 career points) who played for Durham from 1993-94 to 1996-97.
A trio of Durham players sit fifth through seventh on the OCAA all-time scoring charts as Emery and Goedhuis trail Bonnie Slaughter who scored 886 career points.
The Lords trailed Georgian 40-36 heading into the final quarter in Wednesday's game, but Durham managed to score some key buckets down the stretch as they picked up the three-point victory and their second win to start the season.
"It was a big win for us tonight," said Durham College head coach Tim Baulk. "The team toughed it out and never gave up. I am really proud of the way they played."
Emery did an excellent job of getting to the line as she was 13-for-15 from the charity stripe in the 27 point performance.
Keriann Sullivan (Scarborough) and Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) each recorded double-doubles in the win. Sullivan finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds while Hare had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Hare has had a double-double in both games to start the regular season.
Danielle Horvat and Kara Faulkner each had 14 points for Georgian in the loss.
Durham is now 2-0 to start the season and will travel to Seneca (2-0) on Friday night.
The Lords home opener will take place on Friday, November 18 as they take on the Algonquin Thunder (0-1). Algonquin is the defending OCAA champions.
