HUMBER 52, NIAGARA 35 (FINAL)
The Niagara College Knights basketball teams lost a double-header to the Humber Hawks in Etobicoke on Friday night.
The women's team, who were coming off a big home win against Sheridan on Wednesday, were defeated 52-35 by the Hawks. The Knights men's team, who were also coming off a big home win against Sheridan, did not fair any better losing 80-50 to the Hawks.
Poor shooting was to blame for both losses.
The Knights women's team shot 11-for-65 (17 percent) from the field.
"We played awful," said head coach Ron Lemon. "The team needs to learn how to play more consistent and win two big games in a row. We're still in the hunt heading into the second half of the season."
With the loss, the Knights three-game winning streak came to an end. They closed out the first half of the regular season below .500 with a record of 4-5. The team sits in a three-way tie for fifth place in the OCAA West Region.
First-year forward Miranda Ross (St. Catharines, Ont.) had 12 points for the Knights. The Eden Flyers graduate was the only player to reach double-digits in scoring for Niagara.
The Knights will play an exhibition game on Wednesday, December 7 before exams and the Christmas break. They will host the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks at the New Athletic Centre. Game time is 6 p.m.
