EMERY BECOMES THIRD OCAA PLAYER TO SURPASS 1,000 POINTS
OSHAWA, Ont. – Erin Emery of North Bay became the third player in the history of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) to score 1,000 career points as she led Durham College to a 64-58 win over the Georgian Grizzlies.
OSHAWA, Ont. – Erin Emery of North Bay became the third player in the history of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) to score 1,000 career points as she led Durham College to a 64-58 win over the Georgian Grizzlies.
Emery reached the milestone with five points in the first quarter, as she entered the game with 995 career points. With 14 points on Friday night, she now has 1,009 career points and is the Lords all-time leading scorer and third on the OCAA career scoring charts. She is having her best season in five years as she leads the OCAA east region in scoring averaging 18.2 points per game.
The Lords senior finished the night one rebound shy of a double-double, as she had nine boards to go along with her 14 points. Kelsey Hare led the team in scoring with 15 points while freshman Keriann Sullivan had 12.
Trailing 16-11 after one quarter, Durham's offence picked up the pace in the game as they outscored Georgian 22-13 in the second, to take four point lead into halftime. Durham went on to clinch their sixth conference win of the year as they outscored Georgian 31-29 in the second half, winning by six points.
Durham is 6-7 on the year and is in fifth place in the OCAA east region. Georgian slips to 4-8 and are two points out of a playoff spot.
The Lords next game will take place on Wednesday, February 8 at George Brown College. Game time in Toronto is 6 p.m.
