OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College women's basketball head coach
Tim Baulk is proud to announce that Kayla
Marshall of Ottawa has committed to play with the Lords
next season.
"Kayla's success and experience will add depth to our team this
season," said Baulk. "She plays with the physicality that our team
has lacked in the past and we're excited about the possibilities
she brings to the program."
Marshall, a 5-foot-6 guard, played club basketball for the
Gloucester Wolverines and the Ottawa Shooting Stars over the past
seven seasons. In 2009, Marshall led the Shooting Stars to the
provincial finals, where her team won the gold medal. That year,
she was the team captain and MVP. In 2010, the Shooting Stars
returned to the provincial finals where they eventually won the
silver medal.
Marshall also played basketball for her high school in Gloucester.
As a freshman, she was a starter for the Senior Girls team that was
primarily made up of seniors. In 2009 and 2010, she was named team
captain and MVP.
In her senior season, the girls basketball program folded and
Marshall played on the senior boys team. She won rookie of the year
and was named the senior female athlete of the year. She was also
the MVP and captain of the varsity girls soccer team.
Marshall has proven to be a leader in the community as she coached
basketball at Emily Carr Middle School for three years.
Durham College women's basketball training camp will open in September. The Lords home opener will take place Nov. 6 against Loyalist College.
