DURHAM 68, CAMBRIAN 59
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team earned their first conference win of the season with a 68-59 win over Cambrian.
It was a complete team victory as ten Lords players scored at least two points.
Durham had a great first quarter taking a commanding 27-14 lead after 10 minutes, as the Lords made 13 field goals including a three pointer.
After the break, Cambrian was able to regroup outscoring Durham 17-6 to head into the locker room at halftime down by one point.
In the second half, Durham forced Cambrian into foul trouble and capitalized on their chances as they went 8-for-10 from the free throw line to take a seven-point lead. The Lords started the half on a 14-0 run but slowed down in the late stages of the quarter.
In the final 10 minutes, Cambrian would close the gap to just five points, but Durham went on a 9-2 run down the stretch to pick up the win.
Durham's had their best shooting performance of the season going 45.8 percent from the field.
Cambrian's offence had a tough time adjusting to the Lords defence as the green and gold forced 18 turnovers.
Kelsey Hare of Whitby led the team with 19 points and eight rebounds while Kayla Marshall had 12. MacKenzie McFarlane had 10 points with two assists.
The Lords next game is on Wednesday, November 21 against the George Brown Huskies. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
The team is also encouraging fans to donate toys at the remaining Lords home games in 2012 as they are holding their fifth annual toy drive in support of the SickKids Foundation.
