ST. LAWRENCE (K) 72, CAMBRIAN 56

KINGSTON, Ont. - Fresh off their big win over George Brown College on Friday, the Vikings were back at it again on Saturday against the visiting Cambrian College Golden Shield. The 79-56 win over the Huskies on Friday night pushed the Vikings to a four-way tie for second place in the OCAA East Division. The win also extended the team home-unbeaten streak to five games.

The Vikings would control the game from the very start, not allowing Cambrian to score untill halfway through the first quarter, going on a 12-0 run. St. Lawrence dominated offensively, with point guard Hayley Gourdier scoring 15 points. Guard Jackie Rodgerson also had a great half scoring key three pointers and recording eight points. As a team, St. Lawrence capitalized from turnovers, recording 20 points.

Enjoying a 15-point lead to start the second half, Cambrian came out firing reducing the lead to six points. St. Lawrence would respond switching the game plan and once again capitalizing off of turnovers. Vikings would find themselves up 20 halfway through the third quarter. In the fourth, Cambrian would once again provide bursts of offensive pressure, but St. Lawrence would stick to their game plan defeating the Golden Shield by a score of 72-56, and extend their home-unbeaten streak to five games. Second half scoring favored the Vikings by only one point (34-33), making the Vikings first quarter domination all the more important.

Lacey Knox led the team in scoring with 20 points, Haley Gourdier was 2-of-3 from the three point line and recorded 17 points. Tory McKenna and Jessica Cetoute did a great job controlling rebounds on both ends of the court, recording a combined 23 rebounds.

The Vikings last game before the Christmas break takes place Tuesday in Belleville, Ont. against the Loyalist College Lancers (5-2). A win against Loyalist would provide the girls some much needed breathing space near the top of the OCAA East Division.
