ST. LAWRENCE (K) 65, SENECA 48

Fresh off their tournament championship at the fifth annual SLC Invitational, the 7-2 St. Lawrence College Vikings women's basketball team faced the 6-4 Seneca College Sting on Saturday in a game that could solidify the team's second place in the East Division with a win. As well, the girls wanted to continue their home-unbeaten streak (currently at eight), and winning streak (nine games). Previously Seneca College defeated St. Lawrence 52-67 in the first game of the regular season.

The Vikings would get off to a great start scoring the first eight points of the game before Seneca closed in on the lead. SLC was able to move the ball well in the offensive end, finding Lacey Knox who went 2-of-3 from three-point range in the first half. Seneca would out-rebound the Vikings 20-14 in the half, but St. Lawrence remained in control with a 19-15 lead after the first quarter. In the second, the Vikings exploded offensively, expanding their lead to 35-25 until Seneca recorded eight unanswered point to bring the deficit to only two points, 35-33 at the half.

In the second half, St. Lawrence College Athlete of the Week, Katie Chapman recorded 15 points for the Vikings (leading her team with a game-high 18 points). Head coach Remy Simpson had the team tighten up on defence, and the strategy paid off with St. Lawrence holding the Sting to only three points in the fourth quarter. The Vikings forced Seneca to take tough shots, and were able to control defensive rebounds. Eventually St. Lawrence pulled to an 18-point lead, which proved too much for Seneca, and secured the 65-48 win for the Vikings.

The win continues the team's winning streak to 10 games, and remain undefeated at home during the Ontario College Athletics Association regular season (nine games). St. Lawrence will play the struggling 0-9 Georgian College Grizzlies Sunday, January 13 at home. Game time is 1 p.m.
