SENECA 53, GEORGIAN 22

As the senior leader on a young team, Lauren Egglestone knew she needed to step up her game in the second semester if the Seneca Sting were going to make it back to the OCAA championship. Egglestone brought her 'A' game Saturday afternoon, scoring 17, as the Sting knocked off the Georgian Grizzlies 53-22.

A fourth-year post, Egglestone was the only player in the game to make a field goal in all four quarters which saw the Sting steadily increase their lead throughout the game.

Seneca jumped all over the visiting Grizzlies, taking an early 8-0 lead before Georgian got on the scoreboard. The Sting outscored the Grizzlies 16-4 in the opening quarter with Paige Smith and Melissa Conroy each scoring four points for the Sting

The low-scoring pace continued throughout the game with Seneca recording 10, nine and 18 points over the final three quarters. Georgian reach double digits only once in a quarter as they scored ten in the third frame.

Egglestone and Georgian's Mikaela Weir each had four points in the second quarter as each led their teams in scoring at the half. Seneca's Paige Smith and Conroy each had six points at the half.

Georgian came out of the locker room for the third quarter looking to cut into the Seneca 16-point lead. The Grizzlies outscored the Sting 10-9 in the quarter with Kasey Faulkner and Mackenzie Merkley each scoring three points in the quarter.

The fourth quarter looked similar to the first as Seneca showed off their potential, outscoring Georgian 18-2. Egglestone came alive in the quarter, scoring half of Seneca's points in the fourth.

Along with Egglestone's 17 points, Paige Smith added 12 for Seneca. Egglestone also added eight rebounds while Paige Smith contributed four assists. Ashley Nurse was the team leader with five steals.

Weir was the top scorer for Georgian with eight points while Merkley scored five points. Weir added five rebounds with Faulkner leading the Grizzlies with two assists. Jessica Tinney had two steals.

The Seneca Sting (7-5) will host Fleming (5-5) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. while the Georgian Grizzlies (0-11) will back in action Wednesday as they welcome Durham (2-9) at 6 p.m.
