TORONTO - A tough fourth quarter for the George Brown erased impressive performances in the second and third as the Huskies fell to the Seneca College Sting 59-51 in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women's basketball league opener for both.
Seneca stormed out to a 23-9 opening quarter at the Alex Barbier gym, but George Brown put up a rally and trailed by seven points at halftime. George Brown started the second half with tenacity and led 41-39 with one quarter to play.
But, the fourth was all Seneca, with a 20-10 edge on the scoreboard.
Cori Browne led George Brown scorers with 16 points while Angel Mbikay added nine. Pre-season top scorer Jessica Ramkeesoon, who was scoreless in the fourth and fouled out, had eight points in the game as did Melissa Vilar. Seven of the nine players dressed for the game scored for George Brown.
Seneca had the edge (20-8) from the free-throw line, had an edge on points off the bench (13-5) and out-rebounded George Brown (60-50).
