ST. CLAIR 79, SHERIDAN 48
BRAMPTON, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team salvaged a win from their Toronto road trip this weekend with a 79-48 victory over Sheridan College in Brampton, Ont., on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints started slow trailing 18-14 after the opening quarter to the Lady Bruins but responded nicely and after a Tori Schutz (Lasalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) buzzer beater from just past midcourt went into the locker room with a 38-28 halftime lead.
St. Clair poured it on in the third quarter outscoring Sheridan 31-6 and led by as much 33 points. The Lady Saints held an advantage in most statistical categories but shot nearly 50 per cent from the field including almost 45 per cent from beyond the three-point arc for the game.
Second-year forward Torrie Handsor (Wallaceburg, Ont.) had an outstanding game scoring a game-high 25 points and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds for St. Clair. Fifth-year guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) scored 12 points to go with eight rebounds. Third-year guard Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) and third-year point guard Sarah Bondy (Amhersburg, Ont./General Amherst) each scored 11 points to round out the group in double figures for the Saints.
