ST. CLAIR 72, FANSHAWE 65
LONDON, Ont. - On Tuesday night, the No. 15 CCAA-ranked Fanshawe women's basketball team (4-2) fell to the undefeated St. Clair Saints (5-0) by a final score of 72-65. Fanshawe is tied for second place in the OCAA West Division with eight points.
Fanshawe started the first quarter with some fantastic defence. After two minutes, the Falcons had an early 4-0 lead. St. Clair battled back and took its first lead of the game 9-8 on a three-pointer by Shannon Kennedy. Fanshawe came right back with a pair of lay-ups and led 12-9 with three minutes left in the quarter. The Saints finished the quarter on a 6-2 run and led 15-14 heading to the second.
Anique Daley started the second with four points of her own for the Falcons, as Fanshawe pulled ahead 20-17. After a Saints timeout, St. Clair briefly took the lead but with two minutes left, the game was tied at 27. At the half, the Saints led 31-29. Laura Vere led all players with nine points.
The Saints started the third on a 7-0 run and led by as many as 11 midway through the quarter but the Falcons continued to fight. Vere made a big three pointer to cut the Saints lead to just six heading to the final quarter. Vere started the fourth with another three pointer for the Falcons.
Fanshawe continued to push and took the lead after scoring nine straight points, forcing the Saints to take a timeout. With just over five minutes to go, the Saints retook the lead 60-59. St. Clair pulled ahead by five but back-to-back lay-ups by Vere and Kaleigh Morris cut the lead to just one, 64-63. The Saints finished the game on an 8-2 run, winning the game by a final score of 72-65.
Vere had a fantastic game for the Falcons, leading the team with 21 points. Fanshawe's next game in on the road on Saturday when they travel to Ancaster, Ontario to take on the Redeemer Royals (3-1).

LONDON, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team ended a long drought in London, Ont., on Tuesday night defeating Fanshawe College 72-65 moving their OCAA West Division leading record to 5-0 on the season.
The Lady Saints had not won at Fanshawe's gym since the 2008-09 season which ends a seven-game skid in London. Fanshawe was the No. 15 nationally-ranked team in the latest poll which will give some consideration to the Saints moving forward.
St. Clair were ahead 31-29 at halftime and relinquished the lead briefly in the fourth quarter (59-56) but had enough in the tank to outlast Fanshawe down the stretch.
Third-year Saints forward Nicole Tamm (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points leading her team to the hard fought victory. Tamm was a stat filler adding five rebounds and six blocked shots to go with four assists.
Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) scored 16 points, narrowly missing a double-double with nine rebounds. Elena Caldarelli (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne) had a nice shooting game scoring 13 points and Aleah Marton (Amherstburg, Ont./General Amherst) was impressive scoring 12 points to go with 10 rebounds and five assists for St. Clair.
