TORONTO - The St. Clair College women's basketball team played giant killer for most of the first half but ultimately lost 68-50 to Humber College (Etobicoke) Thursday afternoon at the OCAA provincial championship being hosted by Seneca College in North York.
St. Clair seemed to have control early in the contest over the nation's top ranked team, holding a slight 12-11 lead after the opening quarter. Although Humber was not shooting well, the Hawks established themselves on the offensive glass earning critical extra possessions.
Humber seemed to gain momentum as the game moved on and seized a 33-26 lead by halftime. St. Clair was suffocated by Humber's defence in the third quarter and could only muster six points. Humber stretched out their lead down the stretch cruising to the victory while enjoying a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds.
Leah Beeler (Fort McMurray, Alta.) was named Player of the Game for St. Clair leading the Saints in scoring with 14 points to go with seven rebounds. Shannon Kennedy (Windsor/St. Joseph's) chipped in with nine points adding nine rebounds but could never really find her shooting touch.
Humber's Ceejay Nofuente (Toronto) scored a game-high 23 points in the win.
