COLTS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WELCOMES NEW HEAD COACH GEORGE THOMAS

SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - Colts Athletics is thrilled to announce the appointment of George Thomas as the new head coach for Colts women's basketball. With 17 years of experience in the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and extensive coaching credentials, Thomas brings a dynamic and visionary approach to the team.

Thomas's notable achievements include:

• Building Successful Programs: Thomas has developed highly successful girls' basketball programs in high-needs communities. His roles as a Toronto Raptors Community Youth Development Coach and President of Above The 6 Youth Basketball Association underscore his commitment to youth sports development.
• Competitive Success: Thomas has led teams to top finishes in competitive leagues and provincial championships including guiding the Orangeville Prep Junior Girls to a Top 4 finish in the High Performance Development League. In 2024, his sr. team won the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) G-Elite League Provincial Championship
• Community Engagement: He is the Founder of Above The 6 Youth Basketball Association and has provided accessible basketball opportunities and academic support to youth, fostering community involvement.
• Professional Expertise: Thomas holds a Train to Compete certification from Canada Basketball with Special Education and Physical Education qualifications. He earned his Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Health Sciences from York University.

"I am excited to take another step on my coaching journey by moving to the collegiate level while continuing my work with student-athletes. It's an exciting prospect, and I will strive to build a program that achieves excellence on the court and supports our players' personal and academic growth."
