HUMBER 24, SENECA 0
There is little shame holding a team to 24 points. Especially when that team entered the match having averaged 91 points per game on the season.
The Seneca Sting knew they were in for a tall task hosting the Humber Hawks on Thursday at Markham Campus Field, but the team rose to the occasion and look to build on the experience moving forward.
For the better part of the first half, Seneca had the Hawks pinned on their side of the field, looking score the first points of the season against the defending champions. The Sting were within inches, only to have Humber drive them backwards before getting their offence going.
Maire Balzan got the scoring started for the undefeated Hawks midway through the first half with a long 30-yard run for a try before Lindsey Bradbury would kick the convert for a 7-0 lead.
The Hawks struck again moments later as Lucille Foss would score her first of two tries. Bradbury would miss the convert as Humber would head into halftime up 12-0.
Seneca would generate little offence in the second half as Humber showed off their dominating defense, stifling the few chances that Seneca would move the ball.
Bardy Kelsey added to the Hawks lead with a try on a near 40-yard run. Kelsey showed off her agility and strength as she weaved in and out of the Sting defenders. Those who got in the way were driven backwards as Kelsey crossed for the score. Bradbury would kick the convert for 19-0 lead.
The final scoring of the afternoon came from Foss, who scored following a great show of teamwork as the Hawks moved the ball from teammate to teammate, eventually finding a gap in the Sting defense for the try. Alicia Mitton would fail on the convert for a 24-0 Hawks win.
Seneca (2-2-0) gets back in action next Saturday, October 13 as they travel to play Mohawk (0-3-0) at 3 p.m. while Humber (3-0-0) will host Conestoga (2-0-0) Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
