CASSIBO HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S RUGBY AWARDS

TORONTO - Fleming College's Kayla Cassibo (Belleville) is the 2015 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women's rugby player of the year.

The second-year back was the OCAA overall scoring champion with four tries, 19 converts and three penalty kicks totaling 67 points. Cassibo is also an OCAA all-star.

Cassibo's teammate Angela Godfrey (Baltimore) is the OCAA overall rookie of the year. The back scored four tries and added a convert in six matches.

Lori Artinger of Conestoga College is the OCAA overall coach of the year. The Condors finished with a 5-1-0 record, losing the regional crown in a tiebreaker to Humber. The second place standing was Conestoga's best finish since 2011.

Jacklyn Brown (Dundas) of Sheridan College is the OCAA west region rookie of the year. Brown helped lead the Bruins to their best season to date, finishing with a 3-3-0 record and a playoff berth.

Shannon Burton of Fleming is the OCAA east region coach of the year. The Knights finished the regular season with a perfect 6-0-0 record and an east regional title.

Lauren Congdon (Mississauga) of Humber College is the OCAA west region scoring champion. The fourth-year 8-man scored 55 points in five matches on five tries and 15 converts.

Each OCAA team nominates two all-stars. The OCAA all-stars from the east region include Samantha Neveau (Havelock) and Hilary Lalonde (Arnprior) of Algonquin College; Cassibo and Sam McDougall (Peterborough) of Fleming; Jordan Semark (Shannonville) and Victoria Pedro (Brampton) of Loyalist College; and Samantha Gourdier (Kingston) and Meg Dickson (Kingston) of St. Lawrence College.

OCAA west region all-stars include Scarlett Jarquin (Kitchener) and Nicky Madill (Markdale) of Conestoga; Samantha Drimmie (Peterborough) and Christina Branch (Oshawa) of Humber; Jamie Foster (Brantford) and Natausha Markgraf of Mohawk College; Sarah Givens (Kingston) and Sam Van Item (Guelph) of Seneca College; and Taylor Quigley (Oakville) and Solinda Ros (Brampton) of Sheridan College.
