SHERIDAN 40, MOHAWK 5
HAMILTON, Ont. - Opening day of Mohawk's Ontario Colleges Athletic Association schedule was a soggy one for three Mountaineers' teams and their opponents on Saturday.
In men's soccer at Redeemer, Mohawk, playing at the end with only 10 men after a late sending off, managed a last gasp 1-1 draw with the St. Clair Saints from Windsor.
Both goals came on penalty kicks. Jordan Lidia scored for St. Clair in the 75th minute. Things looked bleak for the Mountaineers but they equalized three minutes into stoppage time. Semir Ibrahimi's kick was saved, but Kaelan Urech pounced on the rebound to score the tying marker.
In women's play, St. Clair got two goals from Tiffany Trembley and Robyn Preston added one, in a 3-0 Saints triumph over the Mountaineers.
Earlier, the Sheridan Bruins opened the women's rugby season with a 40-5 win over Mohawk. Brooke Grant, Stormm Cerrelli and Khadeshia Thompson each had two tries for Sheridan. Carly Donaldson and Taylor Quigley each scored once.
Manon Clarke had Mohawk's try.
