OTTAWA – Durham College opened up their OCAA women's soccer regular season with a 1-0 win over the La Cite Coyotes on Friday night.
Lords second year striker Leanne Fomenko (Courtice, Ont.) scored the game winning goal as she headed in a cross from teammate Megan Arsenault at the 41st minute.
The Lords displayed great ball movement but failed to convert in the second half; however, Durham's defence did a great job of limiting La Cite's scoring chances playing in the constant rain to earn three points. Goalkeeper Sarah Broderick (Whitby, Ont.) picked up the shutout for Durham.
The Lords are 1-0-0 in conference play and 5-0-0 overall. The team will be back on the pitch on Saturday to take on the Algonquin Thunder (1-0-0). La Cite drops to 1-1-0 on the year.
