ST. LAWRENCE (K) 3, CAMBRIAN 1
After being rained out on Friday afternoon, the men's soccer team was finally able to host their opener against Cambrian College. The Vikings were set to play the Huskies from George Brown College on Friday, but a thunderstorm rolled in making the field over saturated.
The Vikings got off to a quick start with Adam Wood opening the scoring at the three minute mark. The teams would then exchange chances, with both teams turning over the ball. Cambrian would eventually capitalize with their first goal at the 35th minute to close out the first half. Andrew Martin would put the Vikings up by one in the 53rd minute, but Jason Taylor from Cambrian College was the receipt of an unfortunate bounce for the Vikings as the ball deflected off of him in a clearing attempt by a St. Lawrence defender. Both teams played very hard right to the final whistle to a 2-2 tie.
"The boys came to play, but we lacked some intensity at important times during the game," said head coach Steve Douglas. "The effort was there at some times, but seemed to diminish at other times during the game. We'll have to improve on that looking towards our next game."
The Vikings take on Algonquin College at home on Wednesday September 19 at 5:00 p.m.
The women's soccer team also played Cambrian College on Saturday, and won 3-1. Head coach Richard Grazette was very impressed with his team's performance this afternoon. "This is the result that we were looking for. We showed the intensity and performance that I know this team is capable of each game."
SLC goal scorers were Ashley Belmore scored at the 54th minute and Alissa Miller at the 85th and 90th minute.
The women's next game is Wednesday September 19 at 3:00 p.m., also against Algonquin College.
