NORTH YORK, Ont. - George Brown's women's soccer team opened the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season with a 2-1 win over Centennial College of Toronto.
Elena MacPherson scored the first goal of the OCAA season, but it was late in the second half when the Huskies pulled off an electrifying win at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, Ont.
Amy-Lee Lovsin had a glorious chance to break a 1-1 tie but her shot hit the cross bar. A few seconds later, Lovsin helped set up the winner off the foot of Katie Turner. Game officials called the match with seven minutes remaining because of lightning.
Only five of the 17 members on the George Brown roster played on the team last season. MacPherson, an assistant team captain, also left the game with a leg injury.
It was the second time in a week that the Huskies prevailed over the Colts. At the Sheridan Invitational, George Brown – with two goals from Lovsin - won 3-0.
