LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's soccer team hosted the Humber Hawks on Sunday for their first league game of the season. Humber came out on top with the final score of 1-0.
Humber came out as the aggressor with a number of early shots on goal but were unable to put one in the back of the net. In the 35th minute, Humber's Keyanna Foster-Jackson finally broke through, sending a ball over the head of Fanshawe's goalkeeper into the net for the first score of the game. Humber took the 1-0 lead into the half while holding a shots on goal advantage of 8-2.
Fanshawe came out strong in the second, keeping the ball in Humber's end for the majority of the half. In the 88th minute, Stephanie Mitchell almost tied the game for Fanshawe, hitting the cross bar but the Hawks escaped and won the game 1-0.
The Falcons next game takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. in Ancaster, Ont., versus the Redeemer Royals (1-0).
