DOURO-DUMMER, Ont. - The Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) Team of the Week, the SLC Vikings women's soccer team, earned their second straight win, outscoring the Loyalist College Lancers 3-1. The victory improves the Vikings record to 3-3-1 and is now in sole possession of fourth place in the East Division.
SLC opened the scoring just 15 minutes into the game, with Mallory McQueen putting the Vikings ahead. The score remained 1-0 until the Lancers tied the game early in the second half. Finally in the 90th minute, Megan Hutcheson broke the deadlock, and just one minute later, scored again to secure the 3-1 victory.
With a victory on Sunday against the last place, 0-5-1, Fleming College Knights, the Vikings will likely finish fourth in the East and will host an OCAA qualifying game against the fifth place team from the East, currently held by George Brown College, who have two games remaining against Seneca and Algonquin College. The two teams have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 44-1.
SLC will host the Fleming Knights on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. as the final regular season game. A date and time will be confirmed the following week for the OCAA qualifying game.
