LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's soccer team defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (0-2-0) by a final score of 10-1. With the win, Fanshawe moves to 3-0-0 on the season, putting them in first place in the OCAA west division.
Fanshawe was in control right from the start, with a number of early chances to score. In the 22nd minute, Jade Kovacevic buried one into the back of the net for Fanshawe. Just three minutes later, Kovacevic scored again from a beautiful touch pass by Niki McDonald. In the 30th minute, Marisa Oliveira scored from the top of the 18-yard box to give the Falcons a commanding 3-0 lead. In the 39th minute, Kovacevic scored for the third time and at the half, the Falcons led 4-0. Fanshawe held Mohawk to just one shot on goal at the break.
Kovacevic continued where she left off in the first half and in the 49th minute, put in her fourth goal of the game off a pass from Oliveira. Four minutes later, Danielle Austin added a goal to make it 6-0 for the home team. Fanshawe controlled the tempo for the majority of the second half and Fanshawe defender Emily Mitchell recorded her first career goal in minute 61. Kovacevic then shot a rocket to the bottom left corner to tie the Fanshawe College record of goals scored in a game with five. Both Aylien Wattell and Breanna Sundberg both added goals before Mohawk got on the board in the 90th minute. The final score was 10-1 in favour of the Falcons, as the 2015-16 team now holds the record for most goals in a game in Fanshawe women's soccer history.
The Falcons next game will be at home on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 12 p.m. versus Conestoga College (0-2-0). This will be the second time this season that the two teams will meet, the first time being on Sept. 14, where the Falcons won 4-0.

LONDON, Ont. - The Mohawk soccer teams headed to Fanshawe College in London, Ont., on Saturday and came back empty handed in OCAA action.
The home town Falcons blanked the Mountaineers 3-0 in the men's game. A second yellow card and resultant red to the Mohawk goalkeeper didn't help the situation.
Meanwhile the women's team was blasted 10-1 by Fanshawe. Rachelle DeJong's late tally was the only bit of consolation for the Mountaineers.
