MOHAWK 3, CONESTOGA 2
Mohawk teams both posted wins over the visiting Conestoga Condors in OCAA volleyball at the Fennell Gymnasium Wednesday (Nov. 14).
The women rallied twice to beat the invaders from Kitchener 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19, 15-9.)
Chantal Baker had 15 kills and four service aces for the Mountaineers. Julie Gagnon had 11 kills, two aces and one stuff block. Melissa DeHaan collected eight kills and three blocks and Kristin VanHartingsveldt added seven kills and three blocks.
Defensively, Gagnon had 24 digs, Baker had 20 and Melanie Patenaude chipped in with 16. Ariel Brown-Berkeley paced the Condors with 13 kills, two aces and one block. Leanne Sinclair had 12 kills and three aces while Lauren Hagedorn contributed nine kills and three aces.
The entertaining match featured extremely long rallies.
Mohawk's victory improved their record to 3-1 and moved them into a tie with Humber and Niagara, all with six points, just two behind West Region leading Fanshawe, which improved to 4-0, after sweeping Sheridan. Conestoga saw it's record fall to 1-3.
Meantime, make it four straight wins for the Mohawk men. They needed just 49 minutes to dispatch Conestoga 25-15, 25-18, 25-11.
Mo Sulaiman again led the Mountaineers with seven kills, one ace and three blocks. Trevor McLaughlin had five kills and one block and Phil Youngblut recorded four kills and two aces.
For Conestoga, now 0-4, Austin MacLellan and Chris Irving had seven kills apiece.
