DURHAM 3, GEORGIAN 2
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Lords went the distance on Wednesday night as it took five sets for the Durham College women's volleyball team to beat Georgian to earn their sixth straight conference victory.
After the OCAA team of the week opened up the match with two set wins (25-21 and 25-23), the Lords let the Grizzlies back into the game dropping the next two sets (25-23 and 25-20).
In the fifth and deciding set, Durham was able to turn things back in their favour as they earned a 15-9 set victory, to win the match by a score of 3-2.
Setter Meghan Renwick (Brooklin, Ont.) looked to outside hitter Leah Saar (Pickering, Ont.) for offence as she recorded a game high 13 kills in the win. Saar has an OCAA high 85 kills this season and is averaging 2.83 kills per set.
Lords Melissa Semeniuk (Ajax, Ont.) and Kerri Fotherby (Newcastle, Ont.) also reached double-digits in scoring with 10 points apiece while Allison Doris (Ajax, Ont.) had nine. Colleen McRobert (Whitby, Ont.) had a game high eight digs in the win.
Hannah Campbell paced the Grizzlies offence with 17 points including 13 kills and four aces.
The Lords improve to 7-1 on the season, as they trail the Trent Excalibur (8-1) by a half game. Cambrian is also in the mix for the top spot in the East Region with a 6-1 record. Georgian falls to 5-3 with the loss.
Durham will head to North York on Friday night to take on the Seneca Sting (5-4). First serve is at 6 p.m.
The Lords final home game in 2012 is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5 as they host the Loyalist Lancers (5-3).
