TRENT 3, CANADORE 2
NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Canadore Panthers women's varsity volleyball team was unsuccessful in beating the No. 1 place team, the Trent Excalibur today in a tough five-set game in the Education Centre Gym at 4 p.m.
Canadore head coach, Stefanie Hancock, said about the game, "Today was a tough loss. We out worked them but at the end of the day, we made too many errors. We outscored them on the score sheet and in all stats. Our serve receive broke down and at the end of the day, they're (Trent) the 11th ranked team in Canada. For a team full of rookies, the one good thing that comes out of it is that we're building character and next time, we'll know how to win when we're up by two sets."
Despite winning the first two sets with scores of 25-18 and 25-21, the Panthers came up short in three straight sets, falling 25-15, 25-21 and 15-10, making it the first loss for the women's team this season.
Liza Grenon, who was not only player of the game, but the top scorer, came away with 25 points, including 23 kills, stated, "We are a really young team and on the whole, I think we played very well. Later in the game, we mentally struggled and that's when we broke down but in the end, we learned from this game and we'll work hard to not let it happen again."
