HUMBER 3, FANSHAWE 1
NORTH YORK, Ont. - Humber punched its 11th straight ticket to the OCAA women's volleyball final.
The team standing in its way Friday night was Fanshawe, and aside from a bumpy second set, the Hawks won the match 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20).
"I'm really proud of my girls," shared Humber head coach Chris Wilkins. "We maybe didn't play our best game tonight, but we found a way to get it done. I'm proud of their leadership and I'm proud of what they did."
Thalia Hanniman led the Humber offence with 13 kills and 10 digs and was named team MVP. She credits her team's resolve for putting the game away in third and fourth set.
"This is our favourite time of year. Give it up to Fanshawe, they played great defence that game, they stuck with us the whole time. We just enjoyed the game and kept putting pressure the whole time."
Darian Gropp led the charge for Fanshawe with 24 assists and chipped in with three digs. Fanshawe head coach Sean Pellow was proud of how his team kept it close throughout.
"Humber is a team that everybody said would be unbeatable, that no one could even play with them. I think we pushed them, I think we made them earn their points, made them earn their win."
Humber now faces Niagara in the championship match. The final is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
