OCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL CROSSOVERS PREVIEW
TORONTO - The Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) Round of 16 matches are set for women's volleyball, with eight elimination matches taking place this weekend.
TORONTO - The Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) Round of 16 matches are set for women's volleyball, with eight elimination matches taking place this weekend.
The top eight teams in each division advance to the post-season and will compete in an inter-divisional crossover round based on seeding (1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, etc.). Winners will advance to the quarter-finals later in the month. All matches in the opening two rounds will be hosted by the higher seeded team.
The final four surviving teams will advance to the OCAA championship to be hosted by the top remaining seed. The OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship will take place over a two-day span between Feb. 27-Mar. 1.
All matches will be streamed on OCAA LIVE.
St. Lawrence Surge, Kingston (8-8, 6th East) at Cambrian Shield, Sudbury (12-4, 3rd West)
Saturday, Feb. 14 - 12 p.m.
The Cambrian Shield showed a dramatic improvement during the regular season after finishing with a .500 record in 2024-25.
Cambrian fifth-year left side Carlie Pappano (North Bay) led all West Division players averaging 3.87 kills per set.
The St. Lawrence Surge cap off their successful return to the OCAA circuit with a post-season appearance.
First-year middle Aleah Anderson (Casselman) is one of the top defenders in the OCAA averaging 0.80 blocks per set.
The Shield advanced to the second weekend of playoffs last season.
Mohawk Mountaineers, Hamilton (6-10, 8th West) at Seneca Sting, King City (16-0, 1st East)
Saturday, Feb. 14 - 1 p.m.
The undefeated Seneca Sting find themselves in a familiar spot, hoping to erase the demons from last season after being upset by Conestoga in the opening ground.
The East Division champions are led offensively by third-year outside hitter Mikyla Patras (Stony Plain, Alta.) who led the OCAA averaging 4.21 kills and 0.71 service aces per set.
The Mohawk Mountaineers ended the regular season on a winning note defeating Fanshawe in five sets.
Mohawk second-year outside hitter Avery McConkey (Stratford) is the top player offensively for the Mountaineers averaging 4.0 points per set.
The Mountaineers failed to advance past the crossovers last season.
Conestoga Condors, Kitchener (7-9, 7th West) at Durham Lords, Oshawa (14-2, 2nd East)
Saturday, Feb. 14 - 1 p.m.
The Conestoga Condors know a thing or two about opening round upsets. As a No. 8 seed last year, they knocked off the East Division champion Seneca Sting in four sets.
Conestoga is led offensively by fourth-year player Bianca Marchetti (Richmond Hill) who is averaging 3.9 points per set having participated in 16 regular season matches.
The Durham Lords ended their regular season winning three straight, with their only losses coming against undefeated Seneca.
Durham fourth-year middle Jessie Buck (Severn) displayed the most efficiency during the regular season with a league-best .479 hitting percentage.
The Lords are looking for better results having failed to advance past the first round last season.
George Brown Huskies, Toronto (7-9, 7th East) at Humber Hawks, Toronto (14-2, 2nd West)
Saturday, Feb. 14 - 1 p.m.
The George Brown Huskies and Humber Hawks will meet in an all-Toronto matchup.
The Hawks have the longest winning streak in the West Division victorious in their final six regular season matches.
Humber fifth-year right side Hannah Manners (Toronto) finished in the OCAA Top 5 averaging 3.58 kills per set and a .372 hitting percentage.
The George Brown Huskies enter elimination play on a lull having lost three straight matches.
George Brown fourth-year outside hitter Kaarina Niemimaa (Pickering) is averaging 2.32 kills and 2.9 points in 2025-26.
The Hawks are the four-time reigning OCAA champions having won a record 19 provincial titles in their history. The Huskies failed to advance to the quarter-finals last season.
Centennial Colts, Toronto (5-11, 8th East) at St. Clair Saints, Windsor (14-2, 1st West)
Saturday, Feb. 14 - 2 p.m.
The St. Clair Saints dethroned Humber as West Division champions having won nine of their last 10 matches.
St. Clair fifth-year outside hitter Kiana Huggins (London) is among the league leaders averaging 3.87 kills per set.
The Centennial Colts have gone to five sets in their last two games, winning one and losing one.
Centennial first-year middle Andrea Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico) led all OCAA players averaging 0.87 blocks per set during the regular season.
The Saints are the reigning OCAA silver medalists having last won an OCAA title in 1997. The Colts did not advance past the crossover round last season.
Fanshawe Falcons, London (10-6, 5th West) at Canadore Panthers, North Bay (10-6, 4th East)
Saturday, Feb. 14 - 5 p.m.
The Canadore Panthers have peaked at a most opportune time, winners of five straight matches.
Canadore third-year player Elise Churman (New Liskeard) had a strong regular season averaging 3.8 points per set to lead all Panthers.
The Fanshawe Falcons enter the post-season on a down note having dropped two straight.
Fanshawe second-year middle Jillian Lancaster (London) is one of the league's top defenders averaging 0.71 blocks per set.
The Falcons advanced to the OCAA championship as a No. 4 seed last season while the Panthers lost in a five-set battle to Niagara in the opening round.
Georgian Grizzlies, Barrie (9-7, 5th East) at Redeemer Royals, Ancaster (12-4, 4th West)
Saturday, Feb. 14 - 6:30 p.m.
The Redeemer Royals finished a strong regular season with three straight wins.
Redeemer third-year player Alana DeJong (Abbotsford, B.C.) is one of the top setters in the OCAA averaging 8.89 assists per set.
The Georgian Grizzlies have lost three straight but have seen much improvement following a 2-16 record a season ago.
Georgian fifth-year libero Ashtyn Smith (Barrie) led the OCAA averaging 4.19 digs per set playing in all 16 regular season matches.
The Royals were one of eight quarter-finalists last season.
Niagara Knights, Welland (8-8, 6th West) at Algonquin Wolves, Ottawa (11-5, 3rd East)
Sunday, Feb. 15 - 1 p.m.
The Algonquin Wolves and Niagara Knights will have to wait one extra day for their anticipated meeting.
The Wolves have won two of their last three matches as they put their 7-2 home record on the line.
Algonquin second-year left side Carys Tenthorey (Ottawa) leads the Wolves offensively averaging 4.1 points per set.
After a strong start to the season, the Knights have lost seven of their last 10 matches.
The Knights are led by fifth-year outside hitter Abbey Gooder (St. Catharines) who is averaging 2.6 points per set.
The Knights are the reigning OCAA bronze medalists. The Wolves fell short in their bid for a quarter-final berth last season.
