FANSHAWE SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS CCAA CROSS COUNTRY TITLE
TORONTO - The Fanshawe College men's cross country team successfully defended its title at the 2013 New Balance Toronto Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross-Country Running National Championships on Saturday.

successfully defended its title at the 2013 New Balance Toronto
Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross-Country
Running National Championships at Humber College on Saturday.
Fanshawe accumulated 39 team points, well ahead of second-place
Humber which amassed 94. Fanshawe was led by two-time defending
Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) champion Clint
Smith (Petrolia), who finished second at nationals for the
third straight season. Smith's 8 km time of 25:42 was just under
four seconds behind champion Stephan St-Martin of Campus
Notre-Dame–de-Foy in Quebec.
Smith's contributed one team point with his second place finish.
Josh Lumani (London) with nine points (26:40),
Daniel Bright (Brampton) with 11 points (26:53)
and Luke Deighan (Newmarket) with 18 points
(27:49) rounded out the scoring. The Fanshawe men's team has now
medalled at nine straight nationals.
As a conference, OCAA finished in a dead heat with the
Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) with
36 points, but won the tiebreaker with a lower total time. OCAA saw
two of its runners make the CCAA all-tournament first-team,
including Smith and Riley Hubbard-Olesky (Oshawa)
of Fleming College (5th - 26:06). Five OCAA student-athletes made
the CCAA all-tournament second-team, including Nathaniel
Green (Etobicoke) of Humber (8th - 26:21), Sean
Sweeney (Toronto) of George Brown College (10th - 26:31),
John Trojansek (Windsor) of St. Clair College
(11th - 26:37), Lumani (12th) and Bright (14th).
St. Clair earned a national women's team medal for the first time
in school history, finishing in bronze position with 87 team
points. University of British Columbia - Okanagan took first place
with 40 points.
St. Clair was led by Kodi Morgan (Windsor) who
finished in 13th place with a 5 km time of 20:23, good for eight
team points. Also contributing to the team title were Donia
Oumesrour (Windsor) with 14 points (20:36); Amanda
Matthews (Windsor) with 25 points (21:02) and
Emily Ditty (Tecumseh) with 40 points (21:37).
Morgan was named to the CCAA all-tournament second-team as well as
OCAA champion Courtney Brohart (Sarnia) of St.
Lawrence College, Kingston Campus (10th - 19:58), and
Joanita Louw (South Africa) of George Brown (14th
- 20:26).
As a conference, OCAA finished in third place with 65 points.
