OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team earned a straight sets victory over the George Brown Huskies on Thursday night winning by set scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-15 at the CRWC.
The two teams came into the game with matching 6-6 records, but Durham proved to be the better team on this night as they over-powered the Huskies throughout all three sets. Sharp serving was the key to victory as the Lords recorded 14 aces.
Head coach Shane Christopher rolled through his line-up with 14 players receiving court time.
Leading the way offensively was Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) with 10 points including five kills, four aces and a block. Also having a standout night was Madison Pilon (Rondeau, Ont.) with four kills.
On the defensive end of the court, libero Natalie Manicotto (Winnipeg) had a team-high five digs.
George Brown was inconsistent throughout the night making a number of costly errors to give the Lords free points.
Durham (7-6) breaks out of a three-way tie for fourth place as they jump two points ahead of the Huskies (6-7) and idle Algonquin Thunder (6-6).
The Lords will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host the Canadore Panthers (8-4). First serve at the CRWC is at noon.
Durham College is proud to host the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship (Feb. 20-22) and the OCAA Volleyball/Basketball All-Star Games (Mar. 22) at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
